Bijou Baby Girls Dresses

Bijou Baby: The perfect little dress

Bijou Baby is a darling online dress boutique run by Vancouverite, Sabrina Pizzolato. They have the cutest little dresses, perfect for wedding time, summer time , photo shoots or any time. They are very affordable and my daughter LOVES wearing them over and over. Here are a few words from Sabrina:

“Bijou Baby  was created shortly after the birth of my second daughter. With a new baby and a two year old at home, I found that I just did not have the time to shop in the traditional sense; the girls were on opposite feeding and sleeping schedules so shopping outings (or any other outing for that matter) was challenging!
On the rare occasion that I was able to get away for a short while, I found it difficult to find pieces for my little girls that were timeless and unique. As a result, Bijou Baby was born; a way to find beautiful, vintage inspired pieces for your little girls from the comfort of home.

Please feel free to contact me through the link above; I would love to hear your feedback.  Enjoy your shopping experience and I hope that you find a piece for the Bijou Baby in your life!”

They are the perfect little dress for any occasion! New stock arrives all the time so contact Sabrina for any specific requests.

Brock House Wedding by Vivid Moments

Brock House Wedding by Vivid Moments

Today, we share a beautiful Brock House wedding contributed by the talents of Moda Member, Vivid Moments with Raymond Chou.

raymond chou vivid moments

“Words can’t express how incredible it was to document Morgan and Zach’s wedding. We were all a bit worried at first as the morning brought some rain and grey clouds, but the weather gods, as if playing a joke, decided to be merciful and made the rain go away just in time for Morgan and Zach’s first look at Jericho Beach. It as a memorable moment to say the least, and the fact that we were the only ones there made it feel like we had the entire beach to ourselves!

The photoshoot that followed was a blast as their entire wedding party were so much fun to be around.  Afterwards we made our way to their wedding ceremony at the beautiful Brock House, where Zach and Morgan spoke their vows of love in a picturesque outdoor ceremony. Although it wasn’t sunny as we had originally hoped for, we were nonetheless welcomed by a gorgeous view of the surrounding waters and mountains of BC. Of course, what really made the ceremony, and the rest of the day, truly spectacular were all their family and friends that came to celebrate with them: their smiles, laughter, and tears of empathy and joy. The night finished on a high note with dancing and lots of it, and we even danced a bit ourselves as we were capturing some of the epic moments that unraveled.

Morgan and Zach, congratulations to you and thank you so much again for allowing us to be a part of your big day!

Vancouver Convention Centre Wedding

Vancouver Convention Centre Luxury Wedding

The Vancouver Convention Centre is one of the most versatile venues we have in the city for weddings. Their mission is to market the province’s premier convention and exhibition facility, to elevate Vancouver as the global leader and convention destination of choice and so generate economic and community benefits for British Columbia.

It boasts the best views of the North Shore mountains and is situated right in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Located on Vancouver’s waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre offers one of the most beautiful settings in the world and convenient access to all the major visitor amenities in the downtown core. As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, the facility hosts more than 500 events and welcomes hundreds of thousands of attendees each year, while generating significant economic activity for the province.

The Convention Centre first served as the Canada Pavilion for the World’s Fair Expo in 1986. Since then, it has tripled in size with the addition of its West building in April 2009, and is recognized as one of the leading convention centres in the world. It also played as the host location for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. The torch can still be visited to this day, being lit for special occasions.

The Convention Centre is designed with the latest environmentally sustainable features and technology, including a six-acre “living roof” and an on-site blackwater treatment plant. The Centre also features Canada’s largest waterfront ballroom with five-story high ceilings, open terraces, and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer breathtaking mountain and harbour vistas.

Today, we share a beautiful wedding captured by Moda Member, Denise Lin of Denise Lin Photography. she did an absolutely amazing job capturing the many, many details this wedding had to offer. Beautiful work, Denise!

Yaletown Photography owner, Sandra Leung, believes wholeheartedly in investing her time in personal interactions and connections so she can have a lifelong relationship with her clients.

Sandra has been running a successful business for more than 15 years and has seen the fruits of her investments.

“I enjoy spending time with my clients. We’ll get together for dinner or do activities with them. I enjoy hanging out with them. I still see clients from weddings I shot over 10 years ago because I value relationship and want a lifelong connection. The human connection is not just a business connection but an actual friendship.”

Sandra went on to tell us how she has built a proven business over the years, all based on building that client connection.

“I still write Christmas cards by hand to all my clients, from this year and years past. I want them to know I still care for them. I keep connected to their social media and thoughtfully comment, and keep up with what’s happening in their lives. I’ll reach out on anniversaries and birthdays; little touches here and there. I’ll even write friendly emails to just to find out how they’re doing. People are always surprised about how I remember the little things, the small personal details about their lives.”

Yaletown Photography currently offers wedding photography, family photography and commercial photography specializing in lifestyle images. She is also an educator & speaker on photography and the photography business.

BC Helicopters Vancouver

BC Helicopters: On Top of the World.

BC_Helicopters_mountain_wedding (2)

BC Helicopters brings people to amazing and remote places so they can experience the wondrous beauty around them. Mischa, the pilot, tells me that one of his favourite parts of the flight is the first moments after landing. He opens the door and the look of pure joy and amazement on passenger’s faces makes every flight worth it. We should know, I think we spent 15 min just ooo-ing and awww-ing at the views when we’ve gone up this past summer. We wanted to give Ashley and Verlon Mundall, of Dragonflight Photography, a HUGE thank you and shout out for the introduction to Mischa, as it was their engagement session when we first met Mischa.

Mischa knows where all of the cool and unique spots are. What’s really amazing is to think that in some places he takes you, you may very well be the first person to ever set foot on that mountain ground. We’ve seen lakes so blue and clear, they shine like gemstones. It’s one of the greatest experiences we’ve had and it’s not something that is easily forgotten.

The moment you get out of the helicopter, you’re perched on some of the highest peaks of the coastal mountains, all you can notice is how quiet it is. Not a sound. No cars, no traffic, no voices, nothing. And the air is so clear and clean you just want to lay down and soak it all in, in silence. It is certainly my happy place. I used to be a beach girl but after getting to experience the atmosphere up there, I can’t wait to go back.

Not only is Mischa a great pilot, instructor and videographer, he’s also been lighting and photo assistant extraordinaire on our past trips. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it. You’ll want to keep going back, again and again!

Here are some videos that he and his team have shot of the amazing beauty up in that region. It does not disappoint!

The most amazing valleys.

Floral Tuesday: Going Green

Green: Not your usual floral go-to.

living wall giant

Photo: Green Roofs

Green is such an underused colour for weddings. There are so many kinds, textures and hues that you can use to create a stunning piece. One of the most beautiful advances in greenery design are the living walls you see around town, what genius and what great inspiration! Exposing stems, foliage and introducing new plants that may not be the regulars. Greenery is a great arena to explore for infinite possibilities.

One of our favourite inspiration moments was when we were driving the Hana Highway at 5am on Maui one year. The sun was just coming up and all you could see were the rolling hills and steep cliffs just covered in every emerald hue imaginable. The bamboo forest is an amazing place as well. What a stunner that would be to come into a reception venue looking as if you walked out into paradise!

Try to go beyond the norm, what’s been done before and look at the amazing new things coming out of the world of landscape design. Green can be used in so many facets from the bouquet, ceremony backdrop, centerpieces and even guest favours of topiaries or small succulents.

This is one of our favourite inspirations and we hope it will open up a whole new world when you think of decor for your next event.

Hycroft Manor: Vancouver Wedding Venue

Hycroft Manor: At the heart of the city

hycroft wedding venue

Photo: Blush Wedding Photography

Hycroft Manor is home to the University Women’s Club of Vancouver. As part of the Canadian Federation of University Women, the UWCV has a history of promoting education and rights for women so they can further their education and opportunities.

A total of 26 different awards are given each year to UBC, SFU, BCIT, Emily Carr University, Langara, Burnaby North Secondary, and Britannia Secondary. Donations and funds are raised throughout the year to support this great program as well as taking an interest in public affairs and educational issues. Members have worked together to be a common voice in support of women in all situations tackling issues such as homelessness, human trafficking and prostitution, safety of women, and child poverty. They also work to develop policy on many issues related to education, status of women, equality and human rights, and the environment.

Founded in 1907, the UWCV at that time consisted of eight young female graduates from Eastern Canada and the USA and was only the second University Women’s Club in Canada. Longing for a clubhouse of their own, the women of UWCV found Hycroft for sale in 1962 and the women purchased the mansion outright with cash which they raised on their own for $32,000. Built by General Alexander Duncan McRae to exacting standards and completed in 1911, it was once the centre of the social scene in Vancouver. The restored Hycroft remains as an amazing landmark and a is great venue for events, weddings and social gatherings.

The outdoor terrace and gardens are beautiful for very light and bright ceremonies guarded by stone pillars and sculptures. The indoor ceremony room is filled with old-world charm, mouldings and really gives a romantic feel, like being taken back in time. It’s an ideal venue, rain or shine and is sure to delight all its guests.

Avoiding the Windfall Mentality

The Windfall Mentality: Don’t let ‘waiting’ steal your life

The Windfall Mentality. It’s every business person’s biggest time-stealer. Instead of working what you have in front of you, you’re constantly waiting for some special event to happen to you that will change everything for you, like winning the lottery. Rather than doing the same thing every day, waiting for that glorious ‘something’ to happen to you, you could be applying yourself to improve and grow your business, if you’re willing to put in the effort and that’s the key.

There’s an old proverb that says, “He who tills his land will have plenty of bread…”, meaning work what you have and you’ll see growth.

What has been a huge success for your business this past year? What product or service has been the most profitable? Ask yourself, ‘how can I increase this in my business?’ My encouragement for you this weekend is to go grab a friend, go for coffee and share with each other what has worked for your business this past year and brainstorm ideas that can help you increase that in your business.

Learn to grow what you have and it may turn out that you don’t need that lottery ticket.

Unique Boutique Florals owner and Moda member, Jayme Carter, has one goal: To create artistic pieces with the highest service and quality of product so she can exceed expectations and delight every bride on her wedding day.

Jayme believes in going above and beyond her work to include personal service and value, doing whatever it takes to make the vision a reality for her clients. Time is invested into every client, spending the time for conversation, phone calls and communication so she can get a complete understanding of her client’s exact vision. Jayme believes every client should be treated with value and should receive the same in both work and service.

Jayme began her artistic journey exploring the world of arts and crafts. Everything from hand-made soaps, candles and silk flowers have played a part into where she is today. Having a true love for flowers and art, she now has been operating Unique Boutique Florals (including decor) for more than 20 years having events of all sizes and budgets.

One of her favourite weddings was having to create more than 100 large pom-poms by hand. It took her and her team hours to create, and three solid hours to hang each one for a spectacular reception ceiling decor at the Hart House in Burnaby.

Jayme’s vision for the future is to focus on larger weddings, dedicating her entire team and efforts into producing grand events dripping with creative vision and unique style and pieces. We look forward to seeing what wonderful things she will create.

Scandinave Spa Whistler

Scandinave Spa in Whistler: The perfect place to relax

Scandinave Spa in Whistler has been a place we’ve been hearing rave reviews about for years. We’re so excited to be visiting there for the first time this winter. Their belief is simple, “to create a space of well-being where you can relax in the heart of nature”. Sounds pretty good to me! This spa resort is engulfed in a spruce and cedar forest on the edge of Lost Lake and Spruce Grove parks and overlooks incredible mountain vistas and the Whistler/Blackcomb valleys. Recognized for their energizing and relaxing effects, the Scandinavian baths have many health benefits. Their unique methods of warming, cooling and relaxing will cleanse the body, stimulate blood circulation and release endorphins.

We have heard people going here as part of their honeymoon, couples’ retreats, bridal party gifts and even just treating yourself. We’re very excited to be going here and we’ll give you a full report!

Vancouver Spring Wedding

Vancouver Spring Wedding At the Roundhouse

By: Melia Sorenson

Moda Member, Melia Sorenson of Lucida Photography is inspired by good light as well as the love and beauty in the celebrations of the remarkable people she photographs. Her life is currently a balance of photography and parenting two little boys in downtown Vancouver.

“Sarah & Aaron’s wedding was our first of the year and my first after having my second baby– although I was so incredibly sore the following days that I could hardly walk I was so very happy– happy to be a part of an incredible celebration and to be able to document the wedding day of these two wonderful people. A good start to my year. I don’t as a rule post ring shots but this ring comes with a bit of a history– about a week before the wedding the ring was inadvertently trashed with some packaging. Members of the bridal party joined the bride and groom at the North Van garbage facility for a frantic search and after digging through thousands of pounds of trash they recovered this lovely ring. Sigh.”

Hydrangea: A Wedding Favourite

Hydrangea: A Wedding Favouritehydrangea wedding flower

Hydrangea flowers truly are a wedding favourite. They can be a welcomed companion to many arrangements or shine by themselves as a giant ball of fluffy blooms. Hydrangeas truly are a flower for all seasons. One of the most loved characteristic about these flowers is their pom-pom-like appearance, which can serve to fill an area with fewer stems and can bring beautiful texture to any arrangement. The only word of caution about these flowers are quite heat-sensitive and wilt quickly if left out in the sun without enough water.

Most varieties come from Asia but some are available from the Americas. Colour variation is dependent on the PH levels in the soil. By simply changing the presence of certain elements such as iron or alum, you can change the colour of the blooms from pink to blue.

Many of the classic choices are white and blue but they can also come in green, purple, pink and can also be dyed many different colours.

Here are just a few of our favourite arrangements:
